Last weekend to catch "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl"

As "Alice in Wonderland" opens in movie theaters this weekend, CYT will present four more shows of  "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl".  While "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl" meets some of the typical Wonderland characters, the plot and settings are uniquely different.

In the opening scene, Alice is a high school senior who must write a paper which leaves her feeling extreme pressure to decide her life.  Then, she receive tickets to the "Red Queen" concert..but her mom will not allow her to go to the concert until her assignment is started.   With no progress on the paper, Alice and her sister decide to sneak out and go to the concert.  Then...the adventures begin....

In Wonderland, Alice meets the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, Dormouse, March Hare, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum, and a White Knight....but not like you expect.  To find out more, go to www.cytvanport.org to order your tickets!!

The 16th Annual Young Artists Competition will be held on Sunday, March 7 at the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics’ Royal Durst Theatre.

Opening weekend for CYT's presentation of "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl"

The sets are built, the costumes are ready, the actors and directors are so excited....as the opening show of CYT's presentation of "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl" begins at 7pm tonight (Friday, Feb 26th) at Fort Vancouver High School.

In this unique version of "Alice - The Looking Glass Girl", you will meet familiar characters like the Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, and the Red Queen...with a twist!  Alice tumbles into Wonderland and meets up with air guitar playing Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, battles a ferocious Jabberwock, and is sernaded by a White Knight and his merry band. 

For this weekend, tickets can be purchased at the door, starting 30 minutes before the show.  On Saturday, Feb 27th, there are two shows at 3pm and 7pm.  All Saturday tickets are $10 each at the door.

On Sunday, Feb 28th, one more show at 3pm.

Writer and composer Jon Lorenz has created a modern, upbeat, rock musical for all ages.  You'll meet familiar characters like Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, and the Red Queen...with a twist.  Alice tumbles into Wonderland and has all manner of adventure.  She meets up with air-guitar playing Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, battles a ferocious Jabberwock, and is serenaded by a White Knight and his merry band.  "The time has come, the Walrus said," to get your ticket and tumble with Alice and the gang into Wonderland.

Performances at Fort Vancouver High School on Fridays, Feb 26 & Mar 5, at 7pm; Saturdays, Feb 27 & Mar 6, at 3pm & 7pm; and Sundays, Feb 28 & Mar 7, at 2pm.

CYT presents Disney's Beauty and the Beast

Based on the Academy-award winning animated feature, the stage version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the last Howard Ashman along with new songs by Mr.

VSAA students to perform original screenplay Feb. 19

Students in the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics (VSAA) will perform an original screenplay co-written by VSAA teacher Anne Averre and student Sarah Eaton, called Storms and Scoundrels, beginning Feb. 19.

These performances are part of the annual PTSA Dinner Theatre, PTSA’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds go toward student and faculty grants, staff appreciation efforts, senior class activities and much more.

The play takes place in 16th century Havana, Cuba with an entertaining cast of characters. In keeping with the theme, dinner will include a Cuban-inspired menu.

Check out "Fadin' By 9" Jan. 23 at Magenta Theater

With tight harmonies and a keen sense of their bluegrass, folk music and classic 1960s rock roots, the band "Fadin’ by 9" creates a unique sound that will have you tapping your feet and dancing in the aisles.

The band will play at the Magenta Theater at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23.

Heritage High School photography students win Adobe Youth Voices International Photo Competition

Eight students from Lee Emmert's digital photography class at Heritage High School (HHS) were named winners in the fall 2009 Adobe Youth Voices International Photo Competition.

The students were among 19 worldwide that submitted work in the ‘under 18 category.'

The HHS winners include Alicia Burgett, Alex Ellinburg, Roberto Fykes, Derek Julian, Lindsey McKim, Emily Myers, Devin Napier and Jamie Winter. The Adobe Youth Voices competition theme was entitled "Crisis and Hope: In Images and Words," and open to photographers around the world.

The winning photos will appear in a traveling exhibit as well as in a book to be published later this year.

Check out the Festival of Nativities from Dec. 3-6

The Festival of Nativities in Vancouver at the Vancouver Latter-Day Saints Stake Center. This year is its 9th year, and the dates are Dec. 3-6.

The festival is a great community event, open to the general public, free of charge. There are generally more than 600 different nativities on display.

They also have live musical performances, a live nativity, and many children's activities. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Night of interactive poetry set for Dec. 4 at WSU-Vancouver

Students from the Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University Vancouver are putting on an evening of interactive poetry performance and digital art at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the Administration building, room 110.

The project is a tribute to late poet, Richard Brautigan, and his library of unpublished manuscripts and books. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

Brautigan, a Washington native known for capturing the zeitgeist of the 1960s and 70s counterculture movement, may have a homecoming of sorts at the Clark County Historical Museum.
